In a tough conference battle tonight at Eagle Field Georgia Southern University’s women’s soccer team came up short to the Furman University Paladins 2-0.

The Eagles played tensely early in the game as Furman kept possession on GSU’s half of the field. Furman was able to capitalize on a GSU mistake, as Furman junior midfielder Caitlin Shelton scored from 15 yards out on an assist by sophomore midfielder India Robinson in the 15^th minute.

GSU loosened up and played better after the goal by Furman.  The mistakes were cut down as Furman didn’t score again in the first half.  The Eagles found it hard to score a goal under the lights as the team went into halftime down 1-0.

In the second half Furman had a break away two man attack thanks to a misplay by GSU.  Sophomore midfielder Hannah Stanifer laid the ball off to freshman forward Stephanie DeVita inside the six yard box.

DeVita added her Division I leading 17^th goal of the season in the 71^st minute as the keeper couldn’t play two people at once.

The tough loss at home puts GSU at 6-7-4 on the season with a home game against Wofford College looming on Sunday’s horizon.
