New York Fashion Week is Back: A Fall 2019 Review
October 2, 2019
New York Fashion Week happens every Sept. and Feb. and features fashion designers from all over the world as they come to showcase their new Fall or Spring collections.
This year’s fashion week occurred on Sept. 6 through Sept. 14. New York Fashion Week had designers from Helmut Lang, Marc Jacobs, Rebecca Minkoff, Burberry, Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Tom Ford and many more.
Front row seats to high end fashion shows can become really expensive and the majority of the time are exclusive to only celebrities and top fashion designers.
If you did not have the chance to attend New York Fashion Week and see what happened at this years event, here’s a recap of all the future trends, performances and some of the most talked about runway looks:
Trends
You can always find a new trend that is bound to emerge upon the runway. Whether it’s hair, makeup, clothes, handbags or jewelry, New York Fashion Week will give you a glimpse of what is to be expected within the upcoming season.
From monochrome, half-and-half colored outfits, blazers, tye-dye shirts and corsets, Teen Vogue deemed these pieces and colors a fashion statement that will create trends this upcoming spring.
Oversized chains, pearls, colorful jewelry, the single earring look and big hoop earrings were also noticeable jewelry trends that kept making their way back onto the runway from various designers like Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Brandon Maxwell and more.
Oh, and you can’t forget to include hairstyles when you talk about fashion week. Designers at New York Fashion Week made hair scarfs a statement this year. Silk hair scarfs were used as hair accessories whether they were braided into ponytails or just used as hair ties.
Performances
What’s a fashion show without an over the top performance from some of your favorite models and singers?
Rihanna’s Savage-Fenty show had models like Bella Hadid and popstar singer Normani walk in Rihanna’ lingerie line while also giving a stellar performance.
Fierce walks from other models and none other than Bella Hadid as she wore a three piece lingerie set, and intense up-beat performances from Normani were all incorporated within the show.
Another performance that set the vibe for the week was Ralph Lauren’s take on a modernized nightclub. Ralph Lauren’s opening performance from Janelle Monae was a trip down memory lane; the show recreated a Jazz era nightclub with guests dressed in tuxedos and red carpet dresses.
Mini-bags, cross-body bags, totes and waist-belt bags, you name it. But nothing was quite as unconventional as OFF-White’s “Meteor Bag” Off-White debuted their new “meteor bag” for the spring which was full of holes. The handbag costs $1,665 but can’t be used to store any personal items inside of it because of its construction.
You can expect to see more designers and looks next year in February at New York Fashion Week.
The fashion show can be streamed on Amazon’s Prime Video if you missed it.
