GSU falls in first SoCon game of the season

Saturday Georgia Southern Men’s Soccer (2-9) opened up conference play against Davidson (5-5-1) with a gut-wrenching loss by a tally of 2-1.

Sophomore midfielder David Vargas Masis put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 27th minute with a shot from outside the 18-yard box.

GSU went into the halftime break leading 1-0, and out shooting the Wildcats 8-6.

The game was a tale of two halves as the Wildcats would come back with an equalizer in the 58th minute off a corner kick from Peter Paras was headed in by Ryan Malden.

Both teams were deadlocked at one apiece until the 89th minute when Davidson midfielder Luke Blades took a free kick from just outside the box, passed through the wall and beat the keeper to put the Wildcats up 2-1.

GSU closes out their 7 p.m. game road trip when they take on Appalachian State University in Boone, NC on Tuesday.
