Sophomore middler hitter Baylor Bumford was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after her performances against Troy and South Alabama this weekend.

Bumford, a transfer from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, has had a strong debut campaign for GS this season, and set a new school record in single-game blocks on Friday against the Trojans.

She had 15 blocks, breaking the previous record of 14 set in 1995 by Megan Pfeiffer. She leads the team with 43 total blocks.

Head Coach Chad Willis congratulated Bumford via Twitter on Monday.

Bumford has also been making strides on offense, as she calculates a .263 hitting percentage, one of the highest on the team.

She hopes to carry this momentum as the 6-9 GS volleyball team travels to Texas this weekend to take on UTA and Texas State.
