Georgia Southern men’s soccer begins its three-game homestand against in-state rival Mercer on Friday in Statesboro.

The Eagles, at 4-3, are looking to carry momentum from a 3-1 win against UAB in Birmingham on Tuesday, while Mercer is fresh off a double overtime match against USC Upstate.

Mercer comes into the contest at 5-2, including three consecutive overtime games.

The Bears are led by sophomore Trevor Martineau, the 2018 Southern Conference Player of the Year, who leads the team in points, assists and goals scored.

The Eagles are led offensively by junior Alhaji Tambadu and sophomore Adam Davie, both tied for third in the Sun Belt with four goals each.

Sophomore Jokull Blaengsson is third in the Sun Belt with 22 saves this year and second in saves per game, averaging 4.40.

Friday’s match offers a chance for GS to tie the overall series record with Mercer, currently trailing 25-24 after last year’s loss in Macon.

The Eagles and Bears will kick off the 50th match between the two at Eagle Field on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m.
