Blood drives provide patients with the blood they need to live a healthy life. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds a person needs a blood transplant.
Today in the Union, the University Wellness Program is promoting and sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross. The blood drive will be on April 1, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the RAC.
“Be a hero and donate blood- you can save up to 3 lives,” Emelina Pèrez, nutrition and food science major, said.
The blood can help patients with a variety of illnesses going from a simple blood transfusion to more serious diseases like cancer and sickle cell anemia. The blood during donation goes through 5 steps (the donation, processing, testing, storage and distribution) according to the American Red Cross.
If you can answer some trivia questions about blood donation by their booth, you can get some free almond butter which can be a healthier alternative to peanut butter.
