Melanie Miller to become Interim Vice President of Student Affairs

Melanie Miller has accepted the position as Interim Vice President of Student Affairs starting on May 1 when Georj Lewis becomes Interim President of Atlanta Metropolitan State University.

Miller’s career in higher education has spanned two decades. Miller has received a degree in social welfare, a Master of Arts in community counseling and a Doctorate of Education from the University of Alabama.

Prior to getting into university education, she worked in the mental health field and work with community-based, non-profit agencies.

She most recently served as Associate Vice President of Student Success at Florida State College at Jacksonville where she had overseen several areas including the Dean of Students, academic success and coaching, career development, athletics and student engagement.

Her role at GS will be to oversee the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement, the Associate Vice President and Dean of Student Services, the Executive Director of Counseling Center, the Director of Student Health Service and the Director of Military Affairs.

Current Associate Dean for Student Advocacy, Mark Whitesel, will become Interim AVP/Dean of Students.
