Georgia Southern Baseball traveled to the University of Louisiana – Monroe for the last weekend in March to play a three game series and ended up coming out on the bottom.

Although all three scores made for a close game, ULM continued to be more persistent and that is what helped them take home the victory.

The Eagles took the victory in the first game of the series finishing 9-8 for a Friday night win against the Warhawks.

GS scored big in the sixth inning of the first game. Mason McWhorter, the junior OF/INF, was one of the first batters to hit the plate and started with a leadoff double in the Top of the sixth.

GS ended up sending 10 batters up to bat and with redshirt-senior OF Tyler Martin hitting a ground ball to short, two more runs came in and everything in the sixth inning ended with the Eagles being up 9-1 against ULM.

ULM kept scoring slowly but surely and the end result was a one point lead win for the Eagles to clinch the first game of the series.

Seth Shuman, the junior RHP, also struck out nine batters Friday night, breaking the 200 career strikeout mark.

The next two games were not successful for the Eagles, however, there were still highlights from these game and now the Eagles have errors to learn from for the games ahead.

In the second game of the series, played on Saturday, the Eagles could just not get points on the scoreboard.

ULM accumulated a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second inning and then ended up answering every point that the Eagles scored after that, for a final score of 4-2 in the Warhawks favor.

Some positives to take away from this loss were that McWhorter had two hits on the day to extend his streak to 12 games.

Also, sophomore OF Nolan Tressler had a 2-for-4 day and extended his team-best hitting streak to a whopping 13 games in a row.

Sunday rolled around and the Eagles were not able to lock in another win for the away series against ULM.

GS started out on a high note as freshman INF Noah Ledford hit a two run home run to right field and the Eagles picked up momentum early on.

Then again, ULM answered that with a run in the bottom of that inning in order to make the score 2-1 in GS’ favor.

After scoring in the top of the sixth and with the score sitting at 4-3, GS leading, the Eagles could not seem to rack up points after that.

ULM soon took center stage and in the bottom of the eighth they scored for runs, and at this point in the game, lead GS 8-4.

After scoring once more, the GS Eagles ended their competition sitting at a 5-8 loss.
