We all need that good home-style cooked meal, and BigMa’s Soul Food Restaurant will make you feel right at home.

I visited the restaurant on a Wednesday just before lunch time. During my time there, I was one of two customers dining in, and there were two to-go orders. Because the menu changes everyday, some days are more prone to be busy than other days.

When I first arrived, the menu was getting changed, and the special of the day was getting added. My initial take on the restaurant was the “home-like feeling” that came from the staff. I was greeted very well and, as it being my first time visiting, the staff member was patient and very helpful with explaining the menu.

I ordered the homemade smothered hamburger over rice, which came with two sides. For my sides, I chose mac n cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. Also, they serve it with a pancake-style cornbread, which tied the whole meal together.

Presentation was just right, and the mason jars for cups added to the home-like style. The plate came with two hamburger patties over white rice, smothered with a special BigMa’s sauce. The portion of this meal was a full plate, and I even had some leftovers.  The mac n cheese was perfectly baked and went along with the mashed potatoes very well. The smothered hamburger over rice was full of flavor, and I would highly recommend this meal.

“Everyday is something different at BigMa’s,” said Terry Buie, Statesboro local and BigMa’s regular.

The plate cost me $8.63, which is decent price for the amount and quality of the meal. Since everyday is different at BigMa’s, there is no harm stopping by and seeing what special is being cooked up for the day.

Overall, BigMa’s Soul Food Restaurant was a delicious adventure, and I would score it at a 4.8 out of 5.

“Some people have families come out of town and they’ll bring them over for the experience,” Buie said.

Since it’s open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, you can come and get some breakfast or stop by for their lunch special.

BigMa’s is located at 585 Martin Luther King Jr Dr., Statesboro, Georgia.
