This year’s Celebrate Armstrong is packed with fun activities beginning Thursday Oct. 9, 2014, and lasting until Saturday Oct. 11, 2014.
Ashleigh Williams, Campus Union Board (CUB) Celebrate Chairman, says this year’s Celebrate festivities will be more student friendly.
The event will also include our fellow Armstrong students at the Liberty Center Campus by having a shuttle that will transport students to the main campus to join the fun. CUB will also be giving out Celebrate T-shirts. Celebrate Armstrong is a free event and open to anyone who wants to join in on the party.
The event will include over 50 booths lining the Campus Quad offering t-shirts, food and much more to celebrate Armstrong and what the school has to offer. There will be a rock climbing wall, a mechanical bull, games, contests and live entertainment! The festival lasts until 6 p.m. Thursday night.
After the festival, beginning at 8 p.m., the Freestyle Funny Comedy Show will return to Armstrong and perform in the Student Union Ballroom. Freestyle Comedy uses sharp improv, entertaining stand-up comedy, and interactive crowd games to wow their audience. They were a smash hit when they first came to Armstrong, so CUB has brought them back for yet another amazing show.
Festivities continue at 8 p.m. on Friday Oct. 10, when magician Jason Bishop will show off his state-of-the-art magic tricks in the Ogeechee Theater upstairs in the Student Union. Jason’s popular tricks include Double Levitation and his Op-Art and Plasma Illusions. He is known for his wide variety of magic skills.
Celebrate Armstrong will be going out with a bang this year.
On Saturday Oct. 11, Armstrong is holding a Beach Music Blowout starting at 6 p.m. on the front lawn of Burnett Boulevard. There’s going to be a military salute and a live performance by the Band of Oz, a prominent U.S. beach music group that goes back all the way to 1967. There will be food and fun for everyone. This event is free and open to the public.
To add to the beach-theme bash, there will be a Low Country Boil. Armstrong is paying for the first 150 students to eat for free, then it goes on sale to guests for $15 for adults and $10 for military and children under the age of 10. Tickets for the Low Country Boil can be purchased on the registration page linked at the bottom of the Celebrate Armstrong Events page. If Low Country Boil isn’t your thing, then you are more than welcome to bring your own picnic and eat under the stars and enjoy the fireworks show!
Celebrate Armstrong T-shirts can be picked up upstairs in the Student Union on the following days: Friday Oct. 3, 11 a.m – 2 p.m, Tuesday Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m, and Thursday Oct. 9, from noon until all of the shirts are gone. Remember to bring your Pirate Card in order to receive a shirt.
All of the Celebrate events are free, the only thing you have to do is show up to the party. Come eat the food and check out the live entertainment and just enjoy yourself and Armstrong.
“We do it just to celebrate the university, and show what we have to offer,” Williams said, “We are also encouraging students to download the SGA app to find the map and other information about Celebrate.”
The SGA app is free and is constantly updated, letting students know about upcoming events and festivities being held at Armstrong.
