The Armstrong Pirates tennis teams faced GRU Augusta and USC Aiken on the road March 31. The men’s team started the day off against GRU Augusta, sweeping all three doubles matches. The Pirates clinched the match in the singles matches, where Fernando Bogajo defeated his opponent when his opponent retired with Bogajo leading 5-0 in the first set. Pablo Gor won 6-0, 6-1 over his opponent, and Okatar Lucak defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-2 in the singles matches. The Pirates defeated GRU Augusta 6-3.
The women’s team swept GRU Augusta Tuesday, 9-0.
The teams then traveled to USC Aiken the same day. Both men and women defeated USC Aiken 5-0, notching another Peach Belt conference victory.
The men and the women swept the doubles matches and clinched two pair of single matches to close the match.
The Pirates returned to action April 3 against Francis Marion University in Florence, South Carolina where the men’s team notched another Peach Belt victory, 8-1.
This victory keeps the Pirates undefeated in the Peach Belt Conference this season. The men swept all three doubles matches, and took 5 of 6 singles matches, their only loss coming when Bogajo suffered a 6-4, 6-4 defeat.
The women also faced Francis Marion and won 8-1. This victory pushes their record to 22-0, and 11-0 in the PBC. The Pirates took all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches. Freshman Nicole Fossa Huergo was defeated by default due to an injury. The women’s team win was the programs 150th consecutive home victory.
