This weekend, the Georgia Southern softball team will take on Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the second conference tournament of the season.

GS, coming off of a 4-0 loss against North Florida, is now 13-11 and on a four game losing streak behind last weekend’s sweep from Appalachian State.

Coastal Carolina is currently 21-4 on an eight game winning streak. They are led by sophomore outfielder Courtney Dean, who has accumulated 20 runs and a 34 percent batting average. Senior infielder Alexis Alvino has put out 40 batters among her 32 assists.

The Chanticleers have played at their own St.John Stadium for the entire month of March, making this their first out of state road trip since the UCF Tournament in February. They have posted a 1-2 record when away.

GS is led by senior infielder Hannah Farrell, junior outfielder Shelby Wilson, and junior outfielder Mekhia Freeman.

Farrell had a season high three put-outs and a double against Appalachian State. Wilson leads the team with a .43 percent batting average and hit four runs in last weekend’s tournament.

Freeman has been a solid asset on both sides of the field. While posting a .36 percent batting average, she has accumulated 36 put-outs.

This tournament will start Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. GS Eagles will be posting live stats.
