The Georgia Southern softball team took down the Furman University Paladins in a pair of games Tuesday afternoon to improve to 11-4 overall.

In the first game, GS took an early 3-1 lead behind junior outfielder Shelby Wilson’s two-run home run in the third inning. In the seventh inning, Furman came back and tied the game, forcing the match into an eighth period. Once again, Wilson hit a double to tie things up. Senior catcher and infielder Logan Harrell, last week’s Sun Belt Player of the Week, hit a home run to bring two GS players to home, allowing GS to win 6-4.

In the second game, Furman came out taking an early 4-1 lead. GS swiftly responded in the fourth inning by becoming more accurate on the plate.

Easy RBIs from junior outfielder Mekhia Freeman and freshman first baseman Faith Shirley made it a one run deficit, and a fully loaded walk from Ashlynn Gunter in the fifth inning was the start of the Eagle domination. Allyssah Mullis hit a double and Gunter hit another single to seal the win.

Sophomore pitcher Rylee Waldrep pitched flawlessly for the first half of the inning with zero hits allowed, and concluded with a strike out and a walk.

GS will travel to Madeira Beach to compete in the 2019 Spring Invitational this weekend, looking to extend their three game winning streak.
