Georgia Southern Women’s basketball squares off with the Sun Belt Conference-leading Troy Trojans on Thursday as they still look for their first win in-conference.
The Eagles come into their 16th game of the season with a 5-10 record and more importantly, an 0-4 conference record. Looking to end a five-game losing streak, GS faces a tough test from the Trojans.
GS has struggled offensively at times this season, but have two players who average double-digit points. Junior guard Alexis Brown leads the team in points per game with 16.1 and Tatum Barber, a sophomore guard averages 10 points per game. As a team, the Eagles score just under 60 points a game, while allowing 69 per.
Troy travels to Statesboro with a 13-2 record, knocking off SEC foe Ole Miss in the process as well as still remaining perfect in conference play. The Trojans are led by a pair of freshmen, forward Amber Rivers and guard Kayla Robinson, that fuel the fire to what has been an explosive offense all season. Rivers averages 12.3 points per game while Robinson is just behind, with 11.1 points per game, helping Troy to just a tick over 81 points per game.
Conference game #5 for the Eagles proves to be a challenge, and with the Trojan’s high-scoring offense, GS comes up just a little short in the contest.
Tip-off from Hanner Fieldhouse on Thursday is slated for 6:30 p.m.
