A SWAT team responded to calls from Statesboro police yesterday to help detain a man with a felony warrant out for his arrest who barricaded himself and his son in his apartment at The Vault.

Police spotted the man outside his apartment, and upon their attempt to make an arrest under a felony warrant issued by the Hinesville Police Department, he fled into his apartment and refused to exit, according to Statesboro Police Captain Jared Akins.

The man was believed to have weapons in his apartment, so a SWAT team and negotiators arrived to talk the man out of the apartment.

Officers took the man into custody and returned him to Liberty county along with his son. The child was taken and handed over to his legal guardian by the Hinesville Police Department.
