The African Student Association showcased their work from this semester, making a runway out of the Rotunda for models to dance and pose in a flash mob this afternoon.
“Today was an exceptional experience, getting to showcase to our peers,” said Soraya Brooker, a model for ASA. As models danced and posed to music, a crowd quickly formed around the Rotunda, and students on their way to class stopped to watch their surprise show.
ASA accepts new models every semester, and the group gets together twice a week to practice their craft. They work on posing, doing turns, walking in shoes and walking a runway.
“Modeling is just about the confidence that you have, and every time you go down the runway you just give it your all,” said Brooker, “It’s just a different way to show your feelings.”
For this pop-up show models showcased their own styles, but ASA has a show planned in April where their stylists will choose runway looks for their theme: Taste of Africa.
