Coming off of an exciting win against Bethune-Cookman, the Georgia Southern women’s basketball team fell to the Kennesaw State Owls 78-59 on Wednesday night. With both teams going into this game two wins apiece, this was a battle for these in state rivals.

Alexis Brown, with 16 points, two steals and one assist, led the Eagles with help from sophomore guard Tatum Barber, who tallied 14 points, two steals and three assists.

The Eagles started off strong, building an eight point lead in the first ten minutes of play. After a few offensive fast breaks by the Owls and multiple missed shot attempts, GS went into halftime down 34-22, shooting 1 for 11 from the three.

Alisha Owens, redshirt freshman, saw 19 minutes of playing time, her most as an Eagle. She finished with 11 points, three rebounds, and two blocks.

Shooting just 4-19 from the three during the entire game and 18 points from the paint, the Eagles struggled with accuracy on the offensive side of the ball. A lack of aggression on defense led to the Owls gaining as much as a 21 point lead in the second half. KSU went almost seven minutes being untouched by the GS defenders, going on a 20-0 run to extend the lead.

KSU’s Amani Johnson tied a career high 17 points, while Simina Avram recorded a career high 20 points and 13 rebounds. Five Owl players ended with double digit score values.

“We quit being aggressive, but a switch got thrown there in the second quarter, and we went through a bad streak,” Head Coach Kip Drown told GSEagles. “We just lost all intensity, we weren’t creating anything for each other.”

The Eagles, now 2-5, will play their next game in Clinton, South Carolina against Presbyterian College on Dec. 12.
