GS falls to Panthers in Sun Belt Conference Tournament

Eagles’ season comes to end in Troy

The Georgia Southern softball season came to a disappointing end at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.

After finishing the regular season on a six-game win streak, the Lady Eagles entered the tournament with as much momentum as any team in the country. However, the seven-seed Eagles fell to the 10-seed Georgia State Panthers, 4-1.

The Panthers got the scoring started after a Daisy Hess RBI double brought in Emily Brown. However, the Eagles quickly responded with an RBI single of their own in the fourth inning.

Aaliyah Garcia pitched five impressive innings, but the Panthers figured out the Eagle starter in the sixth inning. Three hits, a walk and a wild pitch catapulted GSU to a three-run sixth inning, which turned out to be too much for the Eagles to overcome.

GS will conclude the 2021 season with a record of 17-26 (9-15 SBC). The Eagles could return a large amount of production next season, but will have to await decisions from many of their top players throughout the offseason.
