On the heels of losing their fifth of a seven game stretch, Georgia Southern was hungry for a win on the diamond.

To conclude the 2021 regular season, the Eagles hosted UT-Arlington for a three-game series.

GS came out of the gates slow on Thursday, falling to the Mavericks, 5-3.

Home runs from Mason McWhorter and Austin Thompson gave the Eagles a one-run lead after four innings, but UTA found three more runs down the stretch.

The Eagles recorded seven hits, but also left seven runners on base. Two crucial errors on the defensive side also came back to haunt the team.

On the mound, Jay Thompson suffered his first loss of the season. Thompson’s record now sits at 6-1 on the season.

Rodney Hennon’s team rebounded on Friday, taking down UTA on the back of a strong defensive performance, 3-2.

McWhorter recorded his 67th double of his career, breaking the Georgia Southern record. In addition, the fifth-year senior accumulated two RBIs.

GS welcomed two strong performances on the mound, as Jordan Jackson logged his fourth win of the season and Nick Jones record a save.

The Eagles closed out the series and their regular season with a 6-3 victory on Saturday.

Offensively, McWhorter and Noah Ledford both accumulated two RBIs. McWhorter blasted his 16th home run of the year, while Ledford launched his 14th of the season.

Davis Griffin unexpectedly recorded his first win of the season, while Nick Jones recorded his nation-leading 17th save of the 2021 season.

GS completes the 2021 regular season with a record of 31-22 (14-10 SBC). The Eagles enter the Sun Belt Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East division.

The team will begin conference tournament play in the pool stages, where they will take on Georgia State at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and Louisiana-Monroe at 8 p.m. on Friday. Both games will be televised on ESPN+.
