Georgia Southern football has claimed two Sun Belt player of the week titles after their big win over ranked rival Appalachian State.

It’s no surprise red-shirt sophomore quarterback Shai Werts picked up offensive player or the week after his performance against the Mountaineers. Werts rans for 129 yards on 14 carries and averaged 9.2 yards per carry on ASU’s defense. The quarterback also started the game by throwing a 57-yard touchdown pass to then later add a rushing touchdown.

Junior cornerback Kindle Vildor was also named defensive player of the week after his exceptional performance holding off ASU’s offense by intercepting two passes in the fourth quarter and returning them with a combined 21 yards. Vildor also had two tackles- half a tackle for loss and a pass break up.

The Eagles will be back in action to defend their undefeated conference record when they hit to road to Louisiana to take on ULM Saturday.
