Rifle team begins 2018-19 campaign with record-setting weekend
October 2, 2018
The Georgia Southern women’s rifle team opened up their season in Dahlonega, where they saw multiple Eagles make huge contributions.
The Eagles traveled to Dahlonega, Georgia, where the North Georgia campus is located, and faced off against No. 1, Morehead State, and No. 20, North Georgia.
Rosemary Kramer, a senior for the Eagles, set a new school record in air rifle when she shot a 595, which beat the previous record she set by four points.
Along with the record, Kramer and fellow GS teammate Courtney Weekley scored the top 10 aggregate scores in the program’s history. Weekley’s aggregate total is 1,151, which is tied for the fifth-highest aggregate in school history, and Kramer’s aggregate total is 1,149, which is good for the eighth-highest in program history.
The Eagles’ Head Coach Sandra Worman talked about her team’s performance after their match.
“It’s always great to start a new season and see where you are and what you need to work on,” Worman said. “There were some real positives today. To see Rosemary set a school record in the air rifle, Courtney to hit a 10.9 in the air rifle and our freshmen step in and compete in their first collegiate meets were all things I was pleased with. We’ll use this match as a starting point and move forward as we look to improve next weekend in Mississippi.”
The Eagles finished in third place behind the ranked Morehead State and North Georgia, but gave an excellent performance.
The Eagles travel to Ole Miss on Friday, where they square off against No. 4, Murray State, and UAB. Ole Miss will not be participating in the competition.
