Georgia Southern University plans to fire a cannon at the Arkansas State game Saturday as part of its Military Appreciation Day.

The cannon, an M119 Howitzer, will be fired when the team takes the field and after every GS touchdown, Bryan Johnston, associate athletics director for public relations and communications for GS said.

The cannon will be placed on the field near the Bishop Field House. Fans sitting in that area will be provided with ear protection, Johnston said.

The cannon was tested this morning in Paulson Stadium to ensure that the decibel levels of the cannon were safe, Johnston said.

GS takes the field against Arkansas State Saturday at 6 p.m.
