Game Preview: Eagles look to snap losing streak in Texas

History: Georgia Southern and Texas State have met five times, with the Eagles holding a 4-1 edge in the series. GS has won four consecutive matchups over the Bobcats.

Last Week: On a windy and rainy evening, the Eagles fell to Coastal Carolina in blowout fashion on Saturday, 28-20.

“I thought we came out better than we did in the past,” said interim head coach Kevin Whitley. “We played hard on defense, we just couldn’t get anything going on offense.”

The Eagles passed for nearly 150 yards, but averaged just 2.4 yards per rush in an all-around disappointing offensive performance.

Despite their struggles to move the ball, the Eagles left themselves with a handful of good chances to score. However, costly turnovers proved to be the biggest difference for the Chanticleers.

Scouting Report: Both teams enter Saturday’s game with one of the worst offenses in the country.

The Bobcats do the majority of their movement through the air, averaging more than 200 passing yards per game. However, Tyler Vitt and Brady McBride have combined for just 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season.

The running game has been strong when utilized correctly, as three running backs average more than four yards per carry. Despite the success of their backs, the Bobcats average just over 146 rushing yards per game.

On the defensive side, the Bobcats have not been any better. Texas State ranks No. 99 in the FBS in total defense.

The Bobcats allow 237 passing yards per game, good enough for No. 77 in the FBS. But against the ground game, Texas State allows more than 185 yards per game and ranks outside the top-100 in the FBS.

Bottom Line: Like I said two weeks ago when Georgia State came to town: If you like high-quality football, Saturday’s game is not for you.

Both teams tend to struggle on offense, which means this game will come down to whoever holds on to the ball best. Buck;e up, this game is going to be a roller coaster.

Prediction: Eagles steal a close on, 23-20
