Senior forward Javier Carbonell has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the week.

Carbonell has already had an impressive season by tallying up four goals in the last two games, being the first men’s soccer player to score multiple goals in consecutive matches since 2004.

The senior forward also leads the Sun Belt Conference in points (10) and shots taken (12) and is tied for the lead in goals scored (4), and that’s only three games into the season.

Carbonell is no stranger to receiving this honor as this is the senior’s third- he received Offensive Player of the Week in Sept. 19 and Nov. 7 last season. The forward also received the Sun Belt’s Newcomer of the Year in 2017 as a junior transfer.

“Javi has picked up where he left off last year with a strong start to the 2018 season,” Head Coach John Murphy said to gseagles. “His work rate and energy has made a big impact on our young team thus far. Additionally, he has become more of a leader this season, and his strong performances reflect this.”
