Student found dead at Freedom’s Landing Tuesday night

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating a Georgia Southern University student who was found dead at Freedom’s Landing Tuesday night.

The GBI received a request for assistance from the Georgia Southern Police Department regarding the death of a GS student, later identified as Malik Jones, according to a GBI press release.

According to the release, the 20-year-old student was found dead at 8 p.m. in his apartment, located in Freedom’s Landing Apartment Complex.

A GBI medical examiner performed an autopsy Wednesday to determine the cause and manner of death. The results of the autopsy are pending.

The GBI is conducting the investigation in collaboration with the GSPD. Anyone with information is urged to contact the GBI Statesboro office at 912-871-1121.
