Georgia Southern’s first official athletic event from its new Armstrong campus was spoiled when the volleyball team lost to North Florida on Tuesday.

“It was a pretty good atmosphere in here today,” head coach Duston Wood said to GSeagles. “I was happy with it.”

The Eagles climbed back from a six-point deficit to win the third set 26-24, but North Florida stormed back and scored six straight in the fourth set. The Ospreys went on to win the fourth and final set 25-20.

Gabby O’Connell led the way for the Ospreys with 16 kills, 10 digs and a couple of blocks , propelling them to a 3-1 win over the Eagles.

GS’ top player of the match was Skylar Ball, who led the team with 11 kills, two digs, and three blocks.

“I don’t think a lack of effort, it was there,” Wood said to GSeagles. “It was just we were off and they were on.”

The non-conference loss from Alumni Arena drops the Eagles to a 1-6 record on the 2018 season.

The Eagles will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend where they will play three matches in the Wake Forest Invitational. The first of their three matches on the trip will come against the Akron Zips at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
