Both Georgia Southern soccer teams are back in action this weekend at home and hosting this Saturday and Sunday at Erk Park.

Men’s Soccer

Men’s soccer will be hosting ETSU Saturday night and will be looking to extend their win streak of one after coming out of a big, come-behind 5-3 win over Jacksonville University.

The Eagles now hold a record of 3-2-1 and have shown impressive stats for the season so far- 88 shots, 12 goals, and 14.7 shots per game.

Of those statistics, senior forward Javier Carbonell is a big contributor, having eight goals and 23 shots total this season.

Freshman forward Adam Davie has also been an asset this season, claiming those other four goals for the Eagles and logging 16 shots.

Defensively freshman Jokull Blaengesson has started and played in every game and has managed to notch 20 saves, giving him a 0.69 save percentage.

The Eagles will face the Bucs who hold a 3-4 overall record and are also looking to extend their own win streak of one.

ETSU has notched 95 shots but only nine goals this season while averaging 1.29 goals per game. Danny Barlow leads the Bucs with four goals and 24 shots along with a shot percentage of 0.167.

The game will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. at Eagle field this Saturday, September 22.

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team will be taking on their second rival of the season, facing Appalachian State.

The Eagles are coming off a big win over Georgia State who they shut out 2-0 to claim their first conference victory and to improve their overall record to 3-5.

GS has slowly but surely progressed throughout the season, showing two wins out of the last three of their games, logging four goals, notching 77 shots, and averaging 9.6 shots per game.

While their offensive statistics look good, we can’t forget about the defense as redshirt senior Jocelyn Springer was just named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after her shutout over GSU. Springer has logged 36 saves this season in the seven games she’s played, making her saving percentage 0.8.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers have a current overall record of 3-4-1 and are on a two-loss streak currently.

ASU plays their first Sun Belt game against Troy this Friday, September 21- just two days before they take on the Eagles Sunday.
