2021 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Terren Ward scored a career high 32 points to will the Lady Eagles to an 82-80 overtime victory over rival Appalachian State on Thursday.

Ward is the first Eagle to record 30 points in a game since Tatum Barber accomplished the feat in 2020.

In addition to her 32 points, Ward grabbed a steal with under five seconds left to set up Simone James for the game-winning layup.

“Everything we did to get it to overtime and then to win it in overtime—this is the grit, the ferocity that i want us to play with,” said head coach Anita Howard. “This is a really good solid team win and I’m just really happy about it.”

The win is No. 14 on the season and guarantees the Eagles their first winning season since 2009-10. The fifth conference win matches matches last year’s total in five less games.

The Eagles now sit at 14-7 (5-4 SBC) on the season, which is good enough for No. 7 in the conference.

GS will be back in action on Saturday as they host Coastal Carolina for senior day. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
