Lady Eagles fall to third quarter run at Troy

The Eagles saw their five-game win streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to conference-leading Troy, 82-70.

The Trojans opened the game by building a 13-1 lead, but the Eagles cane all the way back to take a lead headed into the second quarter.

Although the lead lasted until halftime, the Trojans outscored the Eagles by 10 after the third quarter. Their 10-point lead was built on the back of a 17-4 run by Troy.

“We are a young team that’s still got a lot to learn,” said head coach Anita Howard. “I am pleased to see that we minimized our turnovers from the last time against them. But it’s about executing. We stopped doing what got us the lead early on.”

Terren Ward extended her 20-point game streak to five consecutive games with 21, while Ja’Nya Love-Hill also added a career-high 21 points as well. Ward also added 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double in the last eight games.

The Eagles now sit at 16-8 (7-5 SBC) on the season, which is good enough for No. 7 in a tightly contested Sun Belt.

GS will be back in action on Thursday, when they travel to take on Louisiana-Monroe. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
