The first insight into the Georgia Southern men’s basketball non-conference schedule was revealed Thursday evening as the Eagles will be playing in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase this November.

The eight school showcase includes Montana, Towson, Florida Atlantic, Miami (Ohio), Incarnate Word, North Dakota State and Pepperdine and will take place Nov. 16-18 at the Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium in Nassau.

Many teams across college basketball, both major teams and mid-majors, compete in these early season contests. Head coach Mark Byington is excited for this year’s tournament after the success in last year’s.

“Tournament experience is extremely valuable for teams, and the fact that we can play one in the Bahamas will be great for our team,” Byington said. “Everything we do is to prepare us for the Sun Belt Tournament in March, and this experience will teach us a lot.”

GS will face Florida Atlantic to open the invitational on Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. and then play either Towson or Pepperdine the next day. If they matchup against Towson, the Eagles will certainly remember last season’s 67-70 loss to the Tigers in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Carver College visits Hanner Fieldhouse on Nov. 7 as the official start of the season and the Showcase for the Eagles.
