10 groups of students from the History of Costume class came together to highlight 10 Black Women from Georgia.
'
The women the students highlighted were: Gwen Torrence, Ma Rainey, Alice Walker, Gladys Knight, Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Virginia Jackson, Evelyn Greenblatt, Birdie Freeman, and Shirley Franklin.
'
Kamryn Smith was one of the students who coordinated this exhibit. Out of the 10 women, Kamryn connected to Evelyn Greenblatt the most. “She is a aviator. I was really drawn into her and what she did with her background. You don’t normally see women in aviation, so being able to see a Black woman in aviation sparked my interest” said Kamryn Smith.

Merrick Payne favorite part was the poetry. “Especially the line where it says ‘with fists as well as hands’ that kind of made me smile. I like the imagery that it painted. It gives the image of a strong woman” said Merrick Payne.

Here are some more women who were highlighted with the poem that Merrick Payne was referring to.
