  • The She Has A Name Exhibit opened on March 2nd in the IAB Building. It will remain open until March 28th.

  • 10 groups of students from the History of Costume class came together to highlight 10 Black Women from Georgia.

  • The women the students highlighted were: Gwen Torrence, Ma Rainey, Alice Walker, Gladys Knight, Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Virginia Jackson, Evelyn Greenblatt, Birdie Freeman, and Shirley Franklin.

  • Kamryn Smith was one of the students who coordinated this exhibit. Out of the 10 women, Kamryn connected to Evelyn Greenblatt the most. “She is a aviator. I was really drawn into her and what she did with her background. You don’t normally see women in aviation, so being able to see a Black woman in aviation sparked my interest” said Kamryn Smith.

  • Here we have Autumn Johnson looking at Alice Walker and Birdie Freeman.

  • Here is Birdie Freeman’s and Alice Walker’s costumes that Autumn Johnson was looking at.

  • Merrick Payne favorite part was the poetry. “Especially the line where it says ‘with fists as well as hands’ that kind of made me smile. I like the imagery that it painted. It gives the image of a strong woman” said Merrick Payne.

  • Here are some more women who were highlighted with the poem that Merrick Payne was referring to.
