Georgia Southern took down a one-loss Mercer team on Wednesday, escaping Macon with an 8-3 victory.

Noah Ledford got the scoring started with a moonshot three-run home run to give the Eagles a lead they would never relinquish. Austin Thompson followed Ledford with a solo shot to extend the GS lead to 4-1.

After a rain delay that lasted a little over an hour, the Eagle kept the bats hot. GS scored four more runs in the sixth inning and grew their lead to five runs.

Ledford led the way with two hits and three RBIs, but five other Eagles recorded at least one hit.

On the mound, Jay Thompson notched his first win of the season after pitching two innings and allowing just two hits and one run.

The win marks the Eagles’ ninth in their last 10 games and pushes the team’s record to 11-6.

GS will begin conference play over the weekend as they travel to take on rival Appalachian State. All games will be televised on ESPN+.
