History: Georgia Southern leads the all time series against Coastal Carolina, 5-3. However, the Chanticleers have won the last two matchups.

Last Week: Following their first loss at UAB, the Eagles got back on track with a hard-fought win over Ball State last weekend.

Kyle Vantrease threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, while also picking up a score on the ground. He continued to strengthen his connection with Derwin Burgess Jr., who hauled in five balls for 133 yards.

The GS defense once again struggled to stop the Cardinals, but played a “bend-don’t-break” style game on Saturday. Veteran cornerback Justin Birdsong forced an interception to win the turnover battle for the Eagles.

Scouting Report: The Chanticleers have long had one of the best offenses at the FBS level and 2022 has been no different. Veteran quarterback Grayson McCall leads a spread-option offensive attack that currently averages over over 450 yards per game.

The CCU defense has struggled mightily when it comes to defending the pass, allowing roughly 275 passing yards per game this season. However, the Chanticleers have been solid against the ground game and rank within the top-25 in the FBS in rushing yards allowed per game.

Bottom Line: This game will be a high-scoring affair and both veteran quarterbacks should play a starring role. Expect the defenses to struggle, but a key turnover could play a vital role in determining a winner.

Prediction: GS upsets the Chanticleers, 40-31
