Georgia Southern beats Old Dominion in Norfolk to improve to 5-3 on the season

Georgia Southern now bounces back from a 2 game skid, to a 2 game winning streak after beat Old Dominion 28-23

The Eagles defense held Old Dominion to just 3 points the entire first half. Kyle Vantrease found Amare Jones late in the 1st quarter for a 29-yard touchdown pass, the only passing touchdown all game for the Eagles’. Another late score at the end of the 2nd quarter by Running back Jalen White, put Southern up 14-3 before the half. This was a lead they would not give up.

The second half showcased the Eagles ability to run the ball as running back Gerald Green found the endzone twice, one of them being a 30-yard run. Despite Old Dominion scoring 20 in the 2nd half, the Eagles defense held them to 2-11 on third down conversions. They also were 1-4 on fourth down.

  • Gerald Green finished the game with 91 yards on 12 carries and 2 touchdowns
  • Jalen White ran for 138 yards and 1 score
  • Kyle Vantrease threw for 192 yards while going 22/27, with 1 touchdown and no interceptions. Very efficient game for him.
  • The leading receiver this game for Eagles was Amare Jones who had 5 receptions on 54 yards and 1 touchdown, DB Wylan Free led the team in tackles with 10, D-lineman LJ McCloud and Linebacker Jalen Jackson shared the only sack of the game

What’s next: The Eagles will have an off week before playing South Alabama Saturday, Nov. 5, on Salute to Service Day and the Hall of Fame Game. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Allen E. Paulson Stadium.
