Season Preview: Eagles set for pivotal third season under Burg

In two seasons under first-time head coach Brian Burg, the Eagles have accumulated a record of 26-29. Those two seasons includes a 12-20 record within the Sun Belt Conference.

The roster heading into the 2022-23 season consists of mostly the same players as the last two seasons, but includes some key additions from both the high school ranks and the transfer portal.

Fifth-year guard Kamari Brown headlines a defense that ranked No. 5 in the Sun Belt in points allowed per game. Kaden Archie and Andrei Savrasov will also look to increase their already big impact on the defensive end.

Offensively, the Eagles will look to improve after ranking dead last in points per game. However, after losing leading scorer Elijah McCadden, GS will have to search for a true offensive leader.

Savrasov stepped into a much larger role offensively last season, but even more will be asked of him this winter. However, there are a number of other roles to be filled this season.

Sophomore guard Mannie Harris, the highest rated recruit in GS history, should be poised for a much larger role this season. Transfer guard Tai Strickland should also be a prominent force for the Eagles this season.

Prediction: 14-17 (7-11 SBC)
