GS falls to Jaguars in disappointing fashion

On a rainy Saturday night, the Georgia Southern Eagles fell to the South Alabama Jaguars, 38-31.

The Eagles had the ball with less than five minutes and a chance to tie the game, but came up short on a crucial fourth down. The Jaguars then milked away the last four minutes of the game.

Kyle Vantrease threw for 278 yards with two touchdowns, but also threw an interception early in the third quarter. Derwin Burgess Jr. was his favorite target, hauling in eight catches for 96 yards.

The Eagles held a 14-point lead at multiple times throughout the game, but failed to extend the lead any farther. The Jaguar offense found a groove in the second half and scored on three straight drives to take a lead they never surrendered.

Junior running back La’Damian Webb starred for the Jaguars, rushing for 247 yards and four touchdowns. Carter Bradley also found Jalen Wayne for another score.

The Eagles fall to 5-4 (2-3 SBC) on the season, which puts them in a four-way tie at 2-3 in the conference.

GS will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Louisiana. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
