The Eagles were victorious in their three-game home series against UTA as they were able to take two out of three games over the Mavericks.

Game One; W (7-0)

Due to an impressive performance by junior pitcher Brian Eichhorn, the game was scoreless for the first four innings.

The Eagles made up for things though in the fifth inning by putting up three runs over UTA. Redshirt junior Tyler Martin was the first to make it to home plate off a sacrifice pop fly out from freshman Christian Avant.

The Mavericks were unable to answer, but the Eagles were able to add more insurance runs- one in the seventh and three in the eighth.

While UTA was unable to put any runs on the board, they did at least notch seven hits. The Eagles on the other hand only logged five hits compared to their seven runs.

Brad Vassar took the loss for the Mavericks throwing two hits and four runs in the 6.2 innings Vassar played.

Brian Eichhorn had a very impressive game as he took the win for the Eagles by pitching only seven hits and no runs. Eichhorn also threw eight strikeouts in the seven innings he was on the mound.

“Brian (Eichhorn) was great for us tonight. He pitched really well and when he did get in to some trouble, he made some big pitches to get out of trouble,” head coach Rodney Hennon told gseagles.

Game Two; L (2-5)

Game two started much like game one due to the game being scoreless on both sides until the fifth inning when the Mavericks got a run off a double to right center.

The Eagles answered in the sixth inning with a homerun from Tyler Martin to tie up the game 1-1.

UTA then continued their scoring spree in the seventh by adding three more runs and regaining the lead. GS then answered with a single run in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Maverick’s lead, but that would cap the scoring for the Eagles.

The Mavericks didn’t stop as they added another insurance run in the top of the ninth off of a single RBI.

Sophomore Seth Shuman took the loss for the Eagles as he threw seven hits and four runs in the seven innings he played but did throw five strikeouts.

Trae Patterson was able to take the win for the Mavericks as he only allowed five hits and one run in the six innings he played and threw six strikeouts as well.

Game Three; W (4-1)

Game three started off with UTA pulling the lead over GS in the fourth inning with a solo home run, but the Eagles were able to eliminate the threat and cap the Mavericks’ scoring there.

The Eagles answered and took the lead later in the game in the seventh inning by adding three runs, off a double RBI and a run off a sacrifice pop fly. GS also added another insurance run in the eight off a single RBI.

Freshman RHP David Johnson took the win for the Eagles by throwing two hits and no runs in the 5.1 innings he played, but also threw six strikeouts.

Ka’ikepono Anderson took the loss for the Mavericks, pitching five hits and three runs in the five innings he played, and threw eight strikeouts.
