Over 100 individuals participated in the annual Run the Boro 5K on Saturday morning, hosted by the Statesboro Family YMCA.

The money raised from the 5K will help the Statesboro community directly.

  • “All the proceeds for this 5k is going to go towards our Place to Dream program,” YMCA executive branch director, Hannah Beggs, said. “That’s a program where we get to put beds in homes for kids that don’t have beds to sleep on.”

Attendees ranging from Statesboro, Georgia to New York were there to support the cause.

  • “We’re from actually upstate New York, so the sunshine was amazing,” Megcarolyn Remesz, a 5K participant, said. “It feels good to be able to wear just a long sleeve t-shirt.”
  • “I feel energized and it was a beautiful walk,” a 5K participant, Gretchen Brown, said. “It’s not hard to do and it’s easy to sign up.”

The YMCA hosted an additional race geared towards kids Saturday morning.

  • The Kid’s Run started at 8:15 a.m. and the 5K began shortly after at 10 a.m.
