Georgia Southern University Department of Public Safety Officer Katie Hodges was awarded 2022 Bulloch County Public Safety Officer of the Year after saving the life of a drowning GS student in April 2022..

Why it matters: The hero Officer Hodges was an upstander the night that a vehicle drove into a campus pond. “The moment the vehicle entered the pond and started to drift into the center, my only resort was to act,” said Officer Hodges.
