Quidditch Club swooping in at Georgia Southern
March 7, 2018
The fictional Harry Potter game, quidditch, comes to life at Georgia Southern University on Mondays and Thursdays at the Recreation Activity Center.
“People should come out and join because, while it might seem nerdy, and I am not going to lie sometimes it is, we have a great group of people that have been coming out this semester and it has become a really great bonding experience for anyone looking to make friends,” Quidditch Club President Samantha Bauer said.
Real-life quidditch is a mixed gender contact sport with a unique mix of elements from rugby, dodgeball and tag, according to usquidditch.org. A quidditch team is made up of seven athletes who play with brooms between their legs at all times.
“You can easily learn how to play even if you have no idea what Harry Potter is and you do not need to be athletic either,” Quidditch Club Secretary Sarah Hartmann said.
On March 23 through 25, the GSU Quidditch team will travel to Columbia, South Carolina to participate in the Tartan Day South Festival and Quidditch tournament.
