$220,000 later, Dr. David Murray flew to New York to find the best concert grand piano for the students, according to Head Chair of the Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music Terre Johnson.
What’s New: The new Steinway “D” piano was delivered to the FOY building October 13.
- “Primarily, this new piano will be used by piano performance majors, who will perform their capstone recitals on it, by music faculty members in concert, and by guest artists who are hosted by the Fred and Dinah Gretsch School of Music,” said Dr. Murray.
- Why was a new piano needed? “It’s a little bit like if a university STEM program only had technology from the 1960s, or if the Eagles were only allowed to use footballs and uniforms from half a century ago. You can make it work, but students who directly use those materials aren’t going to get the full benefit,” said Dr. Murray.
