Georgia Southern students staged a sit-in at the Rotunda raising awareness for the situation in Gaza and the West Bank on Jan 22. Palestinian supporters created signs and shared stories of Palestinians who have been killed, wounded and trapped in the region.
- The group’s goal was to support Palestinians in the Middle East and referred to the developing events there as a genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. When asked by The George-Anne, these students did not provide a comment on the Sit-In.
- Next to the Sit-In was a table set up by GSU’s Turning Point USA (TP USA), a student organization on campus. Members of TP USA stated their goal was to support Israel, stop antisemitism, and advocate for the civilian hostages being held in Gaza. These members showcased Israeli and American flags while informing students of their purpose.
George-Anne reporter John Wright has also written extensively on the history of that region.
