Eagles look to better record and beat number one in Sun Belt
February 8, 2018
Following a shocking loss against the Arkansas State Red Wolves, this week of play for Georgia Southern is going to prove intense as they go up against the number one in the conference, Louisiana.
University Louisiana Monroe (9-12; 3-7)
Overall ULM doesn’t seem to be much of a threat to GS, their record being 9-12 and their conference record being 3-7.
Along with that the Warhawks have never won a game they’ve played traveling, proving that Hanner Fieldhouse and the Hanner Hooligans might spook them a bit.
On paper, their statistics for the offense look decent- averaging 69.5 points per game and shooting 43.7 percent from the floor. Leading the ULM offensively tied at almost 15 points per game are senior guard and forward, Sam McDaniel and junior forward, Travis Munnings.
Defensively their statistics look a little better, averaging 33.2 rebounds per game, and having a total of 140 steals. Back leading the War Hawks defensively this time, Travis Munnings has a total of 137 rebounds and Sam McDaniel trails behind him, totaling at 112.
While ULM doesn’t seem to be much competition for the Eagles, they still need to bring the heat and not let up and give no leeway to the War Hawks to secure another win.
Louisiana-Lafayette (20-3; 10-0)
Easily one of the biggest games for the Eagles this season, GS is facing number one, undefeated in the conference ULL this coming Saturday.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are definitely going to be a major challenge for the Eagles, their offensive statistics proving them to be an intense threat.
ULL averages an impressive 83.6 points per game, showing to be almost 8 points more than GS’ 75.8 ppg.
They also shoot 47.4 percent from the floor, which is also better than the Eagle’s FGP.
Senior guard Frank Bartley leads the Ragin’ Cajuns with 16.5 points per game and a total of 364 points.
Defensively they are still impressive, averaging 39.1 rebounds per game, and totaling 188 steals for the season. Senior forward Bryce Washington leads ULL with an impressive 248 total rebounds.
This game will be action packed and a challenge for the Eagles as they take on number one in the Sun Belt.
The Eagles will play both games at home at Hanner Fieldhouse. GS will go up against ULM Thursday February 8, at 7:30 p.m., and will face the Ragin’ Cajuns Saturday February 10, at 5 p.m.
Both games will be streamed on ESPN3 and the Georgia Southern Sports Network.
