April 2 and 3 is your last chance to catch the stellar “Totality” eclipse show at the Georgia Southern Planetarium in Statesboro. For just $4 you can get a ticket to the show and a complimentary pair of Thousand Oaks Optical ISO (international standard) eclipse viewing shades.
The captivating projections across the planetarium dome will teach you all about the science behind eclipse events and humanities history of studying and understanding the phenomena.
The Planetarium and Astronomy lab coordinator, Dillon Marcy, will also be offering tips for how to safely view the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
Marcy says that it is very important to take caution in viewing eclipses, warning that sunglasses do not protect your eyes from the harsh rays emitted by the sun. He will be explaining exactly how to don the protective shades and things to avoid such as touching the lenses with your fingers so that the oil from your skin does not break down the film layers.
Even for us Georgians that will only be able to see a partial eclipse from our position in the penumbral shadow, it is necessary to use ISO glasses or another qualified viewing apparatus to safely look at the eclipse.
If the weather stays sunny through 3 P.M. On April 8, we will be able to view a partial solar eclipse here in Statesboro, Georgia. Get your ticket for “Totality” and a free pair of glasses so you can enjoy the epic show.
