Baseball heads to the Palmetto State

Following a slow 1-3 start to the season, the Georgia Southern Baseball Team picked up 3 big wins in their series sweep over the weekend against Fairfield.

After getting back on the winning track, the Eagles are set to leave their home state of Georgia for the first time this year.

The Citadel (3-3)

On Tuesday, Feb. 27, they will head to Riley Park in Charleston, South Carolina to square off against The Citadel.

The Bulldogs hold a 3-3 record so far in the 2018 season, but are coming off a strong weekend series win against La Salle.

Of the three games in their series, one of their contest went a whopping 15 innings, where the Bulldogs won in walk-off fashion.

Heading into Tuesday, GS and The Citadel have yet to meet on the diamond in their respective 2018 campaigns, but last season the two teams met twice, and in both instances the Eagles came out with the victory.

First pitch from Charleston is set for 5 p.m. where The Citadel’s probable pitcher Alex Bialakis will face off against freshman, and Statesboro native, Griffin Davis for the Eagles.

College of Charleston (5-2)

After Tuesday night’s showdown, the Eagles will head to Mount Pleasant to take on the College of Charleston on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Winners of two straight, the Cougars post an impressive 5-2 record to this point in their season, but fatigue will be expected to be a factor considering they will be coming fresh off a 4 game series with LIU Brooklyn when the Eagles come to town.

GS faced off against the Cougars just twice in their 2017 season, but were thrilled by winning both matchups fairly easily in the home-and-home series by final scores of 14-7 and 8-4.

Despite the Eagles losing key players to graduation and the MLB draft, they expect their new and young core to keep up their winning streaks against both teams they face this week from the Palmetto State.

Probable starters for Wednesday night’s contest have yet to be announced for either side, but the game time is set for 4 p.m.
