“Escape the Ordinary” is the theme of Statesboro’s latest spot, Gators and Gypsies, which opened in late July of this year. Ginny Hendley, the owner, has a couple of other businesses in the area, including Virginia Luxe and Tranquility, a new salon and spa.
“I wanted to create a space for everyone. We have pool tables, plenty of lounge chairs and furniture, and sparkles and glitter decor for the ladies,” Hendley said.
Every Wednesday-Saturday, Hendley invites musicians to perform on their stage. “I feel like music is a universal language and it’s so good to have live music to bring people together,” she said.
Along with live music, there’s also an opportunity for local artists to have their work hung up and available for purchase. “I put a post out looking for artists and musicians, and a lot of people, especially young people, contacted me and asked if they could come play. It also helped get the word out about our opening,” Hendley said.
Many people in Statesboro may not know what the city has to offer. By familiarizing yourself with local businesses, you never know what may come from it. “When you go to a new place, especially college students, it’s important to know these spots because it might become a new weekly ritual for you to come to, and it’s a great way to meet new people,” Hendley said.
Upon entering, you will find the first part, also known as the “Gypsies” area of the venue. Here you will find the stage, bar, lounge areas, and some jewelry up for sale. As you walk further back, you’ll soon be met with the “Gators” area. Back here, there’s arcade games, pool tables, more seating, and a VIP room.
Located at 19 E Vine St., Gators and Gypsies is a great spot for a new hangout for everyone in Statesboro.
