The Multicultural Student Center has been renamed to the Office of Multicultural Affairs due to the consolidation.

The center was renamed to represent a more accurate reflection of the office’s purpose, Director Takeshia Brown said.

“We provide support for underrepresented students on campus, as well as educate the campus community on issues related to diversity, inclusion and fairness,” Brown said.

Brown also said that due to the recent consolidation with Armstrong State University, the rename is a better tie-in for both locations.

“At the core of who we are, OMA will always be a student center,” Brown said. “As such, offices on both the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses will always be a center for students.”

The OMA offers a wide variety of diversity services and events to spread cultural awareness, such as the MLK day service in January, and various guest speakers throughout the school year.

They also collaborate with other student organizations and faculty to promote diversity opportunities and events.

The office is still located in Russell Union 2070.
