Georgia Southern University announced yesterday afternoon in an Eagle Alert that all classes will remain canceled until normal operations resume on Monday, Oct. 7.
“In the wake of ongoing challenges posed by widespread disruptions to power, water and connectivity across our region, classes (both online and in-person) will resume on Monday, October 7 to allow the necessary time for recovery efforts and to ensure that students, faculty, and staff have the resources they need to resume coursework,” President Kyle Marerro stated in an email addressed to Eagle Nation.
Power outages are still prevalent in Statesboro and Savannah, with estimated restoration times for both campuses ranging from Oct. 1st to Oct. 3rd.
The email also described the resources GS has been able to provide to support the community during the recovery period, including 3,000 pounds of ice, shelter at the RAC for displaced East Georgia State College students, staging areas at the ARC for Georgia Power lineworkers and support from student-athletes and employees who are engaging in community service.
“Students living on campus should continue to exercise caution as they walk through campus as restoration efforts are ongoing.”
