The Hollow Haus is a venue in Brooklet, Georgia, established in 2017 for and by local musicians. Initially named The Birdhouse, it was a small home at 213 West Lee Street. The house was later rebuilt as a venue by Georgia Southern Graduate Willow Farmer.
The venue is known for its local music scene. Bands from all over Coastal Georgia come to the venue for its local/indie vibe. The venue also has a practice room for people to come practice with their bandmates.
In 2016, Farmer moved to Georgia and became passionate about the local music scene. They first joined BiRDPERSON, a local indie band in Statesboro that played shows in their apartment, later calling their apartment venue the Birdhouse. Farmer’s work in the band inspired them to start a local venue.
“I remembered walking in and just feeling this sense of awe,” Farmer said. “I found my people, and so I befriended them, and I got into it.”
In 2020, the pandemic slowed the country to a halt. Many local bands were unable to play because of the lockdowns. After quarantine ended, there was a significant need for local music.
“Ultimately, it was because we care so much about supporting local artists,” said Farmer. “We really just care about creating that platform to give people that visibility to play.”
Luckily, Farmer opened the Hollow Haus from home in Brooklet in mid-2023 to help with the significant demand for music. They chose this area of rural Georgia because of its calm and quiet vibe. As soon as you enter the venue, you can just feel it. There’s so much vegetation around the venue. The building also has a very grandma’s house atmosphere; it reminds you of visiting an old relative at their home.
The venue has recently become known for its local shows, but it also offers art workshops and indie movie screenings. Students can find these events on its website, thehollowhaus.com. Tickets for their shows are all in person on the day of the event.
Hollow Haus is only 15 minutes away from Statesboro. You should check out their shows if you are interested in local music or meeting new people. All money that comes from ticket sales goes directly to the bands as well as the merch that they have for sale.
